Undergraduate commencement planned for Academic Quad
Nearly 1,181 BU seniors will receive bachelor's degrees in two commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 2, in the Academic Quadrangle. Students from the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Science and Technology will graduate at 10 a.m. and students from the College of Business and the College of Professional Studies will graduate at 3 p.m. All guests are welcome to attend. In case of rain, commencement will be held in Nelson Field House and admission will be limited to ticket holders only.
The speaker for both commencements is David H. McCormick, currently Distinguished Service Professor of Information Technology, Public Policy and Management at the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University. From 2007 to 2009, he served as the U.S. Treasury Department's under secretary for international affairs and oversaw policies affecting global financial markets. Before joining the Treasury Department, McCormick was deputy national security adviser for international economic policy and President George W. Bush's personal representative to the Group of Eight industrialized countries. A former Army officer and a veteran of the first Gulf War, McCormick was a successful entrepreneur before entering government service. More information.
The students who earned the highest grade point average in each college, known as top honor graduates, will be recognized during the commencement ceremonies. The graduates, their hometowns and majors are:
- College of Professional Studies: James J. Anthony, Selinsgrove, secondary education Earth science and geosciences/Earth science; Katie Lynn Burns, Millville, secondary education mathematics and mathematics; and Amanda R. Jankowski, Muncy, special and elementary education.
- College of Liberal Arts: Justin M. O'Brien, Catawissa, history.
- College of Business: Eric S. Ewing, Harrisburg, business information systems.
- College of Science and Technology: Todd H. Gray, Auburndale, Fla., medical imaging.
Six doctor of audiology degrees and 156 master's degrees will be conferred during graduate commencement Friday, May 1, at 6 p.m. in Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall.
