Bloomsburg, California (PA) Advance to PSAC Tennis Championship Final

BLOOMSBURG - Setting up a rematch of last year's championship, the Bloomsburg University and California (PA) University women's tennis teams advanced to the finals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) team tournament. Cal downed Millersville 6-0 while Bloomsburg defeated Slippery Rock 5-3.

The Vulcans took all three doubles matches and then got victories at number three, number four and number five singles to win convincingly. Helen Van Eysendeyk was perfect in two matches for California, winning at number three singles 6-0, 6-0 and at number two doubles 8-0 with partner Lisa Santoro.

Bloomsburg's win came down to singles play after taking a 2-1 lead in doubles. Allison Carney and Tracy Nissenbaum were both 2-0 on the day. Carney won a hard-fought match against Lara Rizzi 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 at number five singles and then teamed with Torie Cunningham to win 8-0 at number three doubles. At number six singles, Nissenbaum was a 6-2, 6-3 winner and she also won her doubles match with Katie Hasyn 8-0.

Kayla Blackburn and Laura Handy picked up singles wins for Slippery Rock.

Tomorrow's championship action starts with the men's final at 10:00 a.m. with the women's final being played at 1:00 p.m.
