Day One of PSAC Men's Tennis Championships Wrap Up
BLOOMSBURG - In day one of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) men's tennis team championships, Kutztown and Millersville won semi-finals matches to advance to tomorrow's finals.
In the first semi-final, Kutztown downed East Stroudsburg 8-0. The Golden Bears swept the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead and then won five straight singles matches to earn a spot in the finals where they will look for their fourth straight title.
For Kutztown, Santiago Baquerizo didn't lose a point in either doubles or singles. He teamed up with Lukas Labitsch for an 8-0 win at number won doubles and then defeated Jeff Kurz in number one singles 6-0, 6-0.
The second semi-final of the day came down to the final match as Millersville outlasted Bloomsburg 5-4. With the score tied at 4-4, Bloomsburg's Will Biddle and Millersville's Jeff Treires played three close sets. Biddle took the first set 6-3. In the second set, Biddle was down 4-3 but battled back to go up 5-4. However, Treire rallied and pulled out a 7-6 (4) win in the tiebreaker and then took the match with a 6-3 win in the third set.
Championship action at Bloomsburg will continue tomorrow as the Golden Bears take on the Marauders beginning at 10:00 a.m.
