Bloomsburg Splits Twinbill in Florida Finale

FORT MYERS, FL —The Bloomsburg University baseball team split a pair of games on its final day in Florida beating New Haven, 9-4, and losing to West Liberty, 6-5, in eight innings.

In the opener the Huskies scored four times in the top of the first and never looked back. Senior Larry Piccini (Jessup/Valley View) went 3-4 with three RBI to pace the offense, while Matt Robinson (York/Red Lion) was 2-4 with a double and a triple.

Casey Markey (York/Dallastown) went the distance on the mound striking out three and not issuing a walk.

In the nightcap, Bloomsburg led 5-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning only to see West Liberty scored three times to send the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, West Liberty scored the game winning run with one out.

The Bloomsburg offense was led by Ryan Wyland (Williamsport/Loyalsock Twp) who went 2-3 with an RBI, while Chris Husted (West Decataur/Philipsburg/Osceola) was 2-3 with an RBI.

The Huskies, now 4-11, will host Shippensburg on March 20th.
