Huskies Split with Scranton in Baseball; Haney Win 300th Career Game

The Bloomsburg University baseball team split a doubleheader with the University of Scranton on Sunday, winning the first game 18-11, and losing the nightcap 9-8. The win was Huskies coach Matt Haney's 300th win in his coaching career at Bloomsburg.

In game one, Scranton took an early lead over Bloomsburg scoring nine runs in the first three innings, to lead 9-1. The Huskies responded in the bottom of the fourth when Joe Pesci (Levittown/Pennsbury) came in with an RBI single to send Aaron Wheeler (Summerville, SC/Summerville) home and start the beginning of a 17-run rally. The Huskies scored six times in the fourth inning and fifth innings, and then scored five more in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead 18-10. Scranton 's Mike Urbanovich scored once more in the top of the seventh but that was all they could do, giving the win to Bloomsburg, 18-11. Mark Reiter (Three Bridges, NJ/Hunterdon Central), Ryan Wyland (Williamsport/Loyalsock Twp.), and Andy Howard (Glen Rock/Dallastown), all contributed three runs apiece in the win against Scranton. Reiter went 3-4, with three runs and four RBI, while Wyland went 3-4, with three runs and three RBI.

In the second game of the day the Huskies took the lead in the third inning when Chris Husted (West Decatur/Philipsburg-Osceola) hit a home run, to make it a 3-2 game. But the Royals answered back scoring six more runs in the next two innings. Bloomsburg came back in the seventh inning to tie the score at 8-8. Ryan Wyland had the big blow in the inning, a bases loaded triple with two outs to tie the game. Scranton won the game in the top of the ninth on a solo home run winning 9-8. Husted went 3-4, with two runs and one RBI, while Pesci went 2-5, with one run and one RBI and Wyland went 1-4 with 3 RBI.

The Huskies, 14-25, 4-11 in the PSAC East, will play at Mansfield, 24-16, 12-4 PSAC East, at 1 p.m. Friday in a twinbill.
