Bloomsburg Baseball Pitches Back to Back Shutouts Thursday

FT. MEYERS, FL—The Bloomsburg University team picked up two shutout wins on Thursday as it downed Truman State by scores of 1-0 and 2-0 in Ft. Meyers, FL. The Huskies improve to 7-8 with the wins.

In the opener, Matt Funk (Mucungie/Emmaus) threw a four hitter and fanned six to lead Bloomsburg to the win. The only run of the game was scored in the third inning when Troy Smith (Dauphin/C.D. East) singled and stole second. After a strikeout, Mark Reiter (Three Bridges, NJ/Hunterdon Central) singled home Smith.

Truman State did threaten in the final three innings, but Funk was able to escape the trouble. In the seventh inning, with two outs, he allowed a single and then advanced the runner to second with a wild pitch. He then induced a ground out to second to end the game.

In game two, Andy Gideon (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) threw a three-hit shutout at the Bulldogs striking out a career-high 10 and allowing just one walk.

The offense in game two came off the bat of Joe Pesci (Levittown/Pennsbury) who slammed a two-run homer to left scoring Aaron Wheeler (Sumemrville, SC/Summerville).

The complete games give the Huskies three complete games in their last four outings. Bloomsburg will conclude its trip to Florida Friday taking on Southwest State.
