Huskies Drop Twinbill to Mansfield

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University baseball team ended its 2004 home season with a pair of losses to Mansfield University Saturday, 12-2 and 10-6.
In the opener, the Mountaineers scored eight times over the final two innings to break open a close game. Leading 4-0 going into the sixth inning, the Mounties loaded the bases with one out when Eric Baker connected for a grand slam to make it an 8-0 game.
The Huskies got two back in the home half of the sixth when senior catcher Aaron Wheeler (Summerville, SC/Summerville) hit his first career homer, a two-run shot, to make it an 8-2 game.
The Mounties put the game away with four more runs in the top of the seventh highlighted by Brandon Brokaw's two-run double.
In the nightcap, the Mountaineers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three and half innings before the Huskies cut into the deficit with a pair of runs. Ryan Wyland started the inning by reaching on an error and came in on an RBI double from Andy Howard. After two were out, Mark Reiter singled home Howard with the Huskies second run.
Mansfield put the game away with fours in the fourth and another in the fifth inning to lead 10-3. Bloomsburg would get three back in the bottom of the sixth. Reiter and Chris Husted had RBIs in the inning for the Huskies while another run came in on a Mansfield error.
Bloomsburg falls to 14-27, 4-13 in the PSAC East, while Mansfield is now 29-17, 14-4 in the PSAC East. The two teams will meet again on Sunday at Mansfield starting at 1 p.m.
