Huskies Split with Lock Haven in Baseball

BLOOMSBURG—Chris Husted's RBI single scored Joe Pesi with the winning run as the Bloomsburg University baseball team rallied for an 8-7 win over Lock Haven Monday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader. In game two, Lock Haven's Justin Fetherbay tossed a six-inning no-hitter as the Bald Eagles beat the Huskies, 1-0.

In the opener, the Huskies took a 4-0 lead in the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Aaron Wheeler led off with a walk and moved to second on a single by Pesci. Husted then followed with a walk to load the bases. Dan Adamo then lined a single to score Wheeler and Pesci with the first two runs of the game. After a flyout, Matt Robinson singled home Husted to make it 3-0. Adamo then scored when Reiter reached on an error by the Lock Haven second baseman.

Lock Haven grabbed a 5-4 lead in the top of third inning highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Kurt Elbin.

The Bald Eagles then took the lead 6-4 on a homer by Brian Neitz and made it 7-4 when Aaron Neideigh singled home Chris Miller in the top of the sixth.

Bloomsburg's rally started with one out when Brian Zorger was hit by a pitch from Ricky Cowher and Aaron Wheeler followed with a single. After Heath Repard relieved for Lock Haven, Pesci greeted Repard with a double down the leftfield line on the first pitch, which scored both Zorger and hustling Wheeler. Husted then fouled off a few pitches before lining a single to left. Pesci then just beat the throw by sliding under the tag to give Bloomsburg the win.

In game two, the Bald Eagles' scored the game's only run on an RBI single by Derek Houtzin the fourth inning. The Huskies did threaten in the bottom of the sixth as Fetherbay walked the bases loaded, but induced a ground out to end the game.

Bloomsburg, 12-22, will host West Chester on Friday at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader.
