Box Score-GAME ONE
Box Score-GAME TWO
BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University baseball team split a doubleheader with Kutztown on Friday, losing the first game 4-1 and winning the second in dramatic fashion, 10-9.
In game one, Kutztown broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. One run came home on a wild-pitch, while another scored on a steal of home and third coming in on a RBI single by Josh Fink of the Golden Bears.
Bloomsburg scored its lone run in the bottom of the fifth when Chris Husted (West Decatur/Philipsburg-Osceola) reached on an error, was sacrificed to second, moved to third on an infield single and scored on a suicide squeeze laid down by Joe Pesci (Levittown/Pennsbury). The Huskies did have runners at first and third with one out after the run scored, but a double play on a failed squeeze play ended the threat.
In the second game of the day, Bloomsburg took a 5-3 lead in the second on a bases clearing double by Mark Reiter (Three Bridges, NJ/Hunterdon Central). Kutztown brought the score to 7-6 in the sixth inning scoring one run by error, and another by fielder's choice. Bloomsburg added another run in the sixth on a Kutztown error making the score 8-6 heading into the seventh.
The Golden Bears tied the game in the seventh following a sacrifice by Josh Fink. Kutztown then took the lead on a Paul Koropchak single with two outs. The Huskies then won in dramatic fashion. Joe Pesci and Dan Adamo (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) each singled, sandwiched in between a putout and a strikeout. After Troy Smith (Dauphin/C.D. East) walked to load the bases, Reiter responded with a single, driving in two and winning the game.
The Huskies were led by Reiter who had a huge game, doubling three times on top of his game-winning single. Pesci added two hits including a double while Smith reached base safely three times.
The Huskies return to action on Saturday where they face Kutztown in a doubleheader starting at noon.
