Bloomsburg Baseball Splits on Wednesday
FT. MEYERS, FL—Bloomsburg University freshman Corey Helfrich (Larksville/Wyoming Valley West) tossed a two-hit shutout in leading the Huskies to a 5-0 win over Indiana (PA) in game one on Wednesday on its annual trip to Florida. The Huskies lost to Stonehill College, 12-4, in game two of the day.
Helfrich, a left-hander, struckout six and walked four in getting his first collegiate shutout. Helfrich got all the runs he would need in the fifth inning when Bloomsburg scored five times. In the inning Mark Reiter (Three Bridges, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had a two-run single, while Joe Pesci (Levittown/Pennsbury), Troy Smith (Dauphin/C.D. East) and Brian Zorger (Altoona/Altoona) each added run scoring singles.
In game two, Stonehill scored four times in the first and third and put three on the board in the second to lead 11-0 after three innings of play. The Huskies scored four time in their top half of the fourth with Reiter driving in two runs and Smith one in the inning.
Bloomsburg, 5-8, will face Truman State in a twinbill Thursday morning at 9 a.m.
