Bloomsburg Baseball Drops Game to East Stroudsburg Sunday

NEWPORT NEWS, VA—The Bloomsburg University baseball team ended its season-opening trip to Virginia with a 4-3, nine-inning loss to East Stroudsburg Sunday morning.

After East Stroudsburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Huskies took the lead with three runs in the top of the third inning.

Andy Howard and Larry Piccini started the innings with back-to-back singles. After Jason Giordano sacrificed them to second and third. Brian Zorger then walked to load bases. After a popout, Aaron Wheeler was hit-by-a-pitch to plate one run. Ryan Wyland then followed with a two-run single to give Bloomsburg a 3-1 lead.

It stayed 3-1 until the bottom of the fifth when the Warriors tied the game with a pair of runs.

In the top of the ninth, the Huskies had two on with one out, but popped out to first and flied out to center to end the threat. The Warriors won it in the bottom of the ninth with one out when Kyle Rizzi had an RBI single.

The Huskies are 1-4 on the season and face Slippery Rock in Ft. Meyers, FL on Saturday at 9 a.m.
