Huskies Sweep West Liberty Tuesday Night
FT. MEYERS, FLThe Bloomsburg University baseball team swept a doubleheader on Monday night over West Liberty College. The Huskies won the opener, 9-7, and the nightcap, 14-4. In game two, the Huskies set a school record with 14 stolen bases.
In the opener the Huskies rallied for the win with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chris Husted opened with a single and was forced at second on a ground ball by Vinnie James. Troy Smith and Andy Howard then worked back-to-back walks to load the bases. Mark Reiter then followed with a two-run single scoring James and Smith. After Reiter stole second to put runners at second and third, Aaron Wheeler singled home Howard with the go-ahead run. Wheeler then stole second with Reiter swiping on the backend of the play to give the Huskies a 9-7 lead. Ryan Wyland then struckout two of the three batters he faced in the top of the seventh to earn the save.
In game two the Huskies ran wild on West Liberty and stole 14 bases, four off the NCAA Division single-game record. In all the Huskies had nine hits with James getting a double and triple and driving in three runs, while Dan Adamo had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs.
Casey Markey picked up the win with six strong innings, while Jim Danforth finished up with two strikeouts in his only inning of work.
