Bloomsburg Rallies for Win over WilkesKINGSTON—Bloomsburg University rallied from a 9-1 deficit to beat non-conference foe Wilkes University, 14-9, Monday afternoon in Kingston. With the Huskies trailing 9-1 heading into the top of the sixth, Bloomsburg scored seven times on six hits and took advantage of two errors by the Colonels to get within a run at 9-8. After a strikeout to start the inning, Brian Sperling and Brian Zorger singled to put runners at first and second. Brian Martin then reached on an error by the second baseman with Sperling coming around to score. Tim Kelleher followed with an RBI single to make it 9-3. After Stefan Muller reached on a fielder's choice to put runners at the corners with two outs, Joe Pesci reached on an error by the shortstop allowing Martin to score. Jeremy Arner and Chris Husted then hit back to back run scoring singles to make it 9-6. Arner and Husted then pulled off a double-steal putting runners at second and third. Mark Reiter then singled to center scoring both runners and pulling the Huskies within a run at 9-8. In the top of the seventh, Bloomsburg took the lead for good with a pair of runs. Zorger tripled to start the inning for the Huskies. After the next two batters went out, Muller tripled home Zorger with the tying run. Pesci then delivered another two-out hit for the Huskies scoring Muller and giving Bloomsburg a 10-9 lead. Bloomsburg added a single run in the eighth and three more in the ninth. The ninth inning was highlighted by a steal of home by Troy Smith and RBI hits from Arner and Husted. Rob Jewett earned the win with 2 1/3 innings of relief in which he allowed just four hits and no runs. The Bloomsburg pitching staff limited the Colonels to no runs and just five hits over the final 4 1/3 innings of the slugfest. Bloomsburg, 11-8, will visit Millersville at noon Wednesday for the start of PSAC Eastern Division action.
