Bloomsburg Drops Doubleheader to West Chester

BLOOMSBURG—West Chester took two games from Bloomsburg University in college baseball action Thursday. The Golden Rams won 3-0 and 4-2 at Litwhiler Field.

In game one, the Golden Rams' Jeff Brennan tossed a four-hit shutout to out-duel the Huskies' Matt Wiltrout who allowed just six hits.

The Golden Rams took the lead with a run in the fifth inning when Josh Wagner singled to start the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice. He later scored on an error by Bloomsburg centerfielder Mark Reiter.

West Chester put two insurance runs on the board in the sixth inning when with two outs, Dan Newton singled, stole second, and scored on Chris Talar's single. Talar then scored on Wagner's double for a 3-0 lead.

Bloomsburg's best chance to score was in the fourth when it put two runners on with two outs, however West Chester got a pop-up to end the inning.

In game two, the Huskies' got a great effort from Mike Kelchak who fanned 13, but the Huskies committed three errors behind him leading to three unearned runs in a 4-2 loss.

West Chester took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run homer by Dan Toner and an RBI single by Mike LaRosa. Bloomsburg got one back in the bottom of the third when Joe Pesci reached on a third-strike passed ball. After moving to second on a sacrifice bunt, he scored on a double by Mark Reiter.

After West Chester went ahead 4-1, the Huskies got another back in the bottom of the fifth. David Manter singled with one out, moved to second on a sacrifice and scored on a Chris Husted single.

Bloomsburg had a great opportunity to tie or win in the game in the bottom of the seventh, but came up empty. The Huskies loaded the bases without a hit getting two walks and a hit batsman. However, freshman reliever Mike Robinson made a great stop of a Jeremy Arner hard shot up the middle and threw to first to end the game.

Bloomsburg, 13-18, 2-10 in the PSAC, will host East Stroudsburg in a makeup twinbill Friday at1 p.m.
