Huskies Lose Baseball Finale at Shippensburg

Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG—The Bloomsburg University finished its 2003 season with a 1-0 loss at Shippensburg on Saturday. It was the first and last game for the Huskies after having to forfeit three games due to a bench clearing fight last Sunday at East Stroudsburg.

Shippensburg scored the game's only run in the second inning when Nick Erdman hit a solo homer off Kurt Biedermann. It was one of only two hits on the day surrendered by the six senior members of the pitching staff.

Bloomsburg managed just four hits of its own and left two runners on base in the second inning and had the tying run at third with two outs in the seventh but could not get the run home.

In the seventh the Huskies Jeremy Arner singled, his third hit of the game, to lead off the inning. Mark Reiter then pinch ran and stole second. After Tim Kelleher fouled out, Brian Sperling was retired with Reiter moving to third. However, Josh Beddall popped out to end the game.

The Huskies end their season with a mark of 15-25 (forfeits do not count in NCAA records) and 4-20 in the PSAC East.
