Box Score-Game Three

BLOOMSBURG —The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped three games to Millersville University on Tuesday afternoon in a rare triple-header. The Huskies lost by scores of 10-0, 10-7 and 10-5.

In the opener, the Maruaders Matt Wagner threw a two-hit shutout at the Huskies allowing just a third inning single by David Manter and a sixth inning double by Nick Stachokus.

Mitch Schueck led the Millersville offense by going 3-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Chad Gunzenhauser and Jon Shehan both drove in two runs. Millersville scored three times in the first inning and put the game away wit six in the fourth inning. The Maruaders were the home team in the game since game one was the makeup of a rainout at Millersville in late March.

The second game saw the Huskies get more offense, but still come up short in a 10-7 loss. Millersville scored in the top of the first inning with the Huskies knotting the game in the second on a homer by Josh Beddall. Millersville went ahead 2-1 in the top of the third with the Huskies once again tying the score on a Brian Martin solo homer in the bottom of the third.

Millersville, though, scored four times in each of the fourth and fifth innings to take a 10-2 lead. The Huskies did manage to chip away at the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jeremy Arner had the big blow for the Huskies in the inning with a three-run line shot homer to left.

In the bottom of the seventh Bloomsburg made things interesting and did send the tying run to the plate. The inning started when Mark Reiter singled. After Martin flied out, Reiter moved to second on a wild-pitch. After Brian Zorger was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Both runners moved up a base on another wild-pitch. After a Millersville pitching change, Arner walked to load the bases. Joe Pesci then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Reiter to make it a 10-7 game. Beddall then came to the plate as the potential tying run but popped out to end the game.

In game three, the Marauders jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one inning. The Huskies trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the third on a solo homer by Stefan Muller. The Marauders then scored six times in the top of the fourth to go up 8-1.

Bloomsburg came back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it an 8-5 game. In the fourth for the Huskies' Brian Zorger singled to lead off and went to third on a double by Brian Martin. Tim Kelleher the doubled home Zorger with Martin moving to third. Joe Pesci then slammed a three-run homer to make it 8-5.

Millersville, though, put the game away with two runs in the top of the seventh to sweep the day's games.

Bloomsburg, 13-16, 2-8 in the PSAC East, will host West Chester in a doubleheader Wednesday at 1 p.m.
