Bloomsburg Beats Sweeps Edinboro in Baseball

BRADENTON, FL—Senior Brian Martin went 6-7 with four runs batted in to lead Bloomsburg University to a twinbill sweep of Edinboro in Florida Monday. The Huskies won game one, 17-10 and came back with a 7-3 win in game two.

In the opener the Huskies trailed 7-2 heading into the home half of the fourth when they scored nine times to take the lead for good. Jim Coombe (Bloomsburg/Danville) had a sacrifice fly RBI to score the first run for Bloomsburg. Later Brian Zorger (Altoona/Altoona) had a run scoring single with Martin getting a two-run single. After the Fightin Scots changed pitchers, Joe Pesci (Levittown/Pennsbury) greeting Travis Repman with a two-run double to give the Huskies an 8-7 lead. Jeremy Arner (Alburtis/Emmaus) was then hit by a pitch and Nick Stachokus (Honesdale/Honesdale) was walked to load the bases. Mark Reiter (Three Birdges, NJ/Hunterdon Central) then lined a three-run double giving the Huskies the lead for good at 11-7. The Huskies later added three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to get the win.

Jim Danforth (Corning, NY/Corning East) picked up the win in relief of Charlie Reed (Berwick/Berwick) in game one.

In the nightcap, Rob Jewett (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) threw a seven-hitter and allowed just one run in leading Bloomsburg to a 7-3 win. Along with Jewett's pitching, Josh Beddall (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) slammed a two-run homer and Tim Kelleher (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) had three RBI to lead Bloomsburg.

The Huskies got all the runs they would need in the second when they scored five times. With runners at first and third, Pesci hit a run-scoring single and Kelleher followed with a two-run double. Beddall then slammed a long two-run homer for a 5-0 lead.

In the fourth, the Huskies put the game away with RBI from Pesci and Kelleher.
