Bloomsburg Takes Two More From Edinboro in Baseball

BRADENTON, FL—Bloomsburg University used a nine-run first inning in game one of a doubleheader to post a 15-2 win over Edinboro University in Florida on Tuesday. The Huskies then got a great pitching effort from freshman Mike Kelchak (Hazleton/Hazleton) to beat the Fightin' Scots, 2-1, in the second game of the twinbill.

In the opener, the Huskies put a nine spot on the board in the bottom of the first inning to set the tone for the day. Mark Reiter (Three Bridges, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and Chris Husted (West Decataur/Philipsburg-Osceola) drew back-to-back walks to start the inning with Brian Sperling (Levittown/Neshaminy) sending them home with a triple. After Brian Zorger (Altoona/Altoona) walked, Brian Martin (Macungie/Emmaus) doubled to score two more runs making it a 4-0 game. Joe Pesci (Levittown/Pennsbury) popped a double, putting runners at second and third with Tim Kelleher (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) driving in one run with a single. Jeremy Arner (Alburtis/Emmaus) then hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0, Bloomsburg. A Stefan Muller (Hatboro/Upper Moreland) single and Husted was sandwiched around a strikeout to load the bases. Sperling then walked again to force in a run with Zorger singling home two more making it 9-0.

In the second inning, Sperling keyed a five run inning with a two-run single.

Jim Coombe (Bloomsburg/Danville) went the distance for the Huskies allowing just two runs and five hits.

In game two, the Huskies got a great pitching effort from Mike Kelchak who went six innings, struckout two and walked two and allowed just one earned run. Mike Vavra (Hatfield/North Penn) pitched the seventh for Bloomsburg and had one strikeout to earn the save.

Dan Adamo (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) led the offense by scoring one of the two runs after doubling to start the third inning. Also scoring in the inning was Reiter who reached on a fielder's choice.

Bloomsburg, 8-4, is idle Wednesday and will play two with Slippery Rock Thursday night.
