Bloomsburg Beats Splits with Slippery Rock Thursday NightBRADENTON, FL—Senior Matt Wiltrout struck out nine and allowed just two runs to lead Bloomsburg University to a 4-2 win over Slippery Rock in game one of a doubleheader Thursday night. The Huskies lost game two by a score of 9-6. In the opener, Wiltrout pitched his second brilliant game of the Florida trip by posting nine strikeouts and walked three. He allowed just single runs in the second and fifth innings to help the Huskies to the win. In his first start down in Florida, Wiltrout no-hit Saginaw Valley for seven innings, only to get a no-decision when the Huskies could not muster any offense as well. With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Bloomsburg scored twice without the benefit of a hit. Brian Sperling and Brian Zorger coaxed back-to-back walks to start the inning. Brain Martin then attempted to sacrifice the runners over and reached base on a throwing error by the pitcher with Sperling coming around to score. After Zorger and Martin moved up on a wild pitch and Tim Kelleher walked, Martin came home on another wild pitch to give the lead for good at 3-1. In game two, the Huskies led 4-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning when the Rock took the lead for good with five runs. The big blow in the inning was a grand slam by Tim Reichl after the Huskies committed an error to extend the inning. Bloomsburg, 9-5, will conclude its Florida with games against Edinboro and Slippery Rock Friday.
