Bloomsburg Downs Eastern Mennonite in Baseball

NEWPORT NEWS, VA—The Bloomsburg University baseball team ran its record to 2-0 with a 10-1 win over Eastern Mennonite Friday at the Apprentice School Tournament in Newport News, VA.

Bloomsburg was led by Brian Sperling who was 2-3 with two RBI, while Tim Kelleher also added two runs batted in. In addition, first baseman Joe Pesci was 1-3 with a double and two RBI with Aaron Wheeler going 2-3 with an RBI.

On the mound, the Huskies got six strong innings from Jim Coombe who struck our four and did not walk a batter. Coombe also allowed just three hits and one unearned run in getting his first win of the season.

The Huskies were scheduled to face Lock Haven late Friday night and then take on Kutztown Saturday.
